I have been obsessing over vintage beauty videos lately, specifically the one I will post below. Im so attracted to them simply for aesthetics, although they do offer insight to the lifestyle and ideals being promoted to women at the time. Not that I agree with all of the ideas being promoted in the video, I still find it all extremely interesting and almost soothing to listen to. The manner in which people presented themselves, the way they looked, walked, spoke seems like that of a dream. And the way the film saturates and dulls certain colours, giving a soft filter over everything. I find it to be magical :)
I am currently at home back in Canada for the summer. I am hoping to keep myself busy, since I don't have the same kind of access to culture and entertainment as I did when I was in London. Coming back home is almost like entering a dream, the the first few weeks that I was here was surreal. I forgot how quiet my surroundings could be, and how spread apart I am from people and activity while living in the suburbs.
In attempt to keep myself busy as well as help pay off some student debt I am in the midst of setting up an online shop. I have a lot of clothing I want to sell, as well as some of my art (drawings, prints, paintings etc.). It will be up soon, and I will post a link up on my blog when it is ready, but I was just wondering what kind of things you guys might want to see in my shop? Let me know in the comments below!
I have been having the time of my life in London for the past few months studying at Central Saint Martins. I have been specialized into the fashion pathway on Foundation, and I won't lie it has been a lot of hard work. But I love it! I just wanted to give you guys a taste of what I have been up to. These are some shots from the final outcomes of my last project. What inspired me was a longing for home and for the people I love like my family, my friends and my boyfriend. The main concept that drove this work was exploring the idea of weights, or anchors of the mind. About the thoughts and memories that people hold onto due to its figurative heaviness. I experimented with wrapping different foams to create boulder like structures which would sit on the body. I also drew from the colours and textures of rocks and minerals as inspiration for what the "weights" or "anchors" would look like, as well as colours and textures I wanted to mimic throughout the garment. I also made reference to Canadian outerwear, being the anchor I was exploring was my anchor to home in Canada. I deconstructed a jacket which I integrated into the back of the dress and did a play on the whole wrapping your jacket around your waist thing (as you cans see from the front). It's something my boyfriend does a lot and I thought it would be a playful little reference to him :).
I want to start posting some of the work I have been doing in school onto Calur Villade. I also have some outfit posts and features that are way overdue that I would like to show as well. I'm nearing the end of this semester, and have reading week coming up so I will be able to catch up on some blogging :) Hope all is well!
Im in London! I've been here for almost a month now doing a fuck load of awesome shit in school. Here is a little taste of some of the work I've been up to. I am also in the process of putting together some outfit posts so expect those soon. I will keep you guys updated.
Last week I went to an estate sale with my boyfriend and picked up this fucking badass varsity jacket. Its so large and the colours on it are amazing. And the patches are in such good shape. I know it is crazy hot outside right now but I bought it as an "investment." It will be the perfect fall jacket. I also went to Value Village and bought this shirt and maxi skirt combo. Originally the top was long and was supposed to be tucked into to the dress but I thought it would look cool if I cut out the pattern of the top to make it cropped. It just looks more interesting.
Lately I have been doing a lot of art stuff, getting ready for school next year and revamping my portfolio. Here are some photos of some thing the things I have been working on....
Summer has been great so far and super productive. Hope all has been well and you are all surviving the heat! Thank you for all the lovely comments on my last post. Talk soon :)
